PESHAWAR:

To provide regular and uninterrupted power to residents of the merged tribal districts of the province, the provincial government has launched a project which will effectively double the capacity of grid stations in these areas.

This was disclosed during a meeting to review the progress made on projects of the provincial energy and power department under the Accelerated Implementation Program (AIP) for the erstwhile federally administered tribal areas (Fata). Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan chaired the meeting.

During the meeting, it was disclosed that the power supply system in the merged tribal districts will enhance the capacity of existing grid stations from 66-kilo volts (kV) to 132kV each. Moreover, several schemes have been launched for setting up express power lines to energise the district headquarters hospitals in the merged areas.

Mosques, schools and smaller healthcare facilities will be powered through solar arrays, officials said.

The CM was briefed that the grid stations in Razmak and Wana in North and South Waziristan respectively, have been upgraded while work on upgrading the of Kalaya grid station in Orakzai, Alizai grid station in Kurram, Sadda station in Kurram and Ghalju station in Orakzai are currently in progress. All these 66 KV grid stations are being upgraded to 132 kV grid stations.
