Watch the 'Fortnite' island get sucked into a black hole

It looks like Fortniteis over, folks. It was fun while it lasted.

Sunday marked the end of FortniteSeason 10, and at the moment, the end of Fortniteentirely. Nobody is able to log on right now.

Players who were logged in for the end of the season were treated to an in-game spectacle as they watched the battle island get ripped apart as rifts opened up all over the place, bombarding the map in various locations until one giant explosion forced everyone into the air to look at the island from way up in the sky. And then the whole map imploded.

The whole thing was broadcast by a bunch of streamers, of course, but Fortnitealso hosted a stream on its own YouTube channel from streamer DrLupo.

Here's what it looked like on streamer DanTDM's stream when players were launched into the air:

After that, a whole bunch of light started moving toward the center of the blast as players soared higher and higher, seeing the entire island below.

After a few moments, the entire reality of Fortnitecollapsed into a black hole. Players and onlookers were equally confused. Nobody knew what to do. The only option was to exit the game and anyone who wasn't already in the game couldn't get in.

For those who were in the game's lobby, here's what the event looked like:

Now we'll have to wait and see what the next stage of Fortnitewill bring. The only hint we have for the moment is a leak from earlier this week that seems to suggest we'll be entering Chapter 2 of Fortnite's life.

Fortnitefans aren't completely without things to do while the game is offline, however. Some, for example, have picked up on the fact that there are some numbers floating out in the black hole-y void where Fortnite Island used to be: 11, 146, 15, and 62. More numbers popped up some time later: 87, 14, 106, 2, and 150.

The numbers were eventually matched to words in the Visitor's messages.

Others have noticed that there's a minigame tucked away inside the Fortniteclient. If you input the legendary Konami code at the black hole screen, you unlock a little surprise.

It's not clear when (or if?) Fortnitewill be coming back, but you may want to prepare for a bit of a wait. If the outage is meant to mask the game's transition to a new map, as some have suggested, it could be a day or more before we get our first glimpse at the next phase of Fortnite's life.

UPDATE: Oct. 13, 2019, 4:59 p.m. EDT Added post-outage information regarding the mysterious numbers and the Konami code minigame.
